What we do

The Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) is the Australian Government’s trade and investment development agency that assists Australian businesses contribute to national prosperity by succeeding in trade and investment, internationally, and promoting and supporting productive foreign investment into Australia.

Austrade’s food and beverage specialists provide an integrated service to help Australians sell their goods and services to the USA. With Austraders strategically located across the country, we can:

  • foster new national USA customer relationships for both retail and food service
  • organize focused buyer missions, targeting key opportunity areas such as specialty gourmet and organic food supermarket chains
  • develop new industry niches such as kosher/halal
  • organize trade missions to discover export opportunities
  • create an Australian food website for key USA food industry buyers

New product ideas

Tell us what you're looking for and we'll show you what Australian products fit your needs.  Your request can be specific (to source, for example, biodynamic wine), or open-ended (such as to identify any new, trendy specialty products).  Some customers also use us on an ongoing basis to keep them up-to-date with all the new developments of genuine interest to them.

Managing the time zone difference

Dealing with a distant continent is not without its practical challenges.  As part of our mission to make doing business with Australia easier, we can take on the day-to-day liaison with suppliers, working through the time zone difference so you do not have to. And with our network of offices across every state and region in Australia, you can be sure we always have people on the ground when you need them.

Creative and strategic input

Many Australian products sell themselves. But there are other categories of products that can leverage Australia's national brand values of innovation, freshness and 'clean and green'.  Those in which we have particular expertise are sustainable seafood production, all natural and organic products, indigenous spices, specialty meats and European-style cheeses.  As marketers ourselves, we have the expertise to help you identify new areas of opportunity within these sectors.
